Init A Page – Description #
The INIT A page enables initialization of the flight plan and the alignment of the IRSs and is available only on the ground.
Before the FROM/TO waypoints are defined, the flight plan page contains only present position (PPOS).
When a FROM/TO pair is entered, the flight plan page displays the origin and destination airports in green separated by a F-PLN DISCONTINUITY message.

CO RTE – Company Route #
Enables a nine-digit company route number to be entered for which all data associated with the route (except SIDS and STARS) displays. When entered, loads the departure and destination airport, as well as all waypoints along the route, into the flight plan page.
Some companies use ACARS to automatically load all waypoints along the route into the flight plan page and the departure and destination airport. In this case, NONE would be shown under the CO RTE.
Altn/CO RTE – Alternate Airport / Co Route #
Enables an alternate airport (four-letter ICAO code) to be entered.
These fields are dashed until a primary destination is entered in line 1R.
Once primary destination has been entered, NONE is displayed in this field, which may be overwritten. Entering an alternate allows pilots to use FMGC predictions as an aid in decision making.
If the airport is not in the database, the NEW RUNWAY page displays. The alternate airport can be deleted by entering NONE.
FLT Nbr – Flight Number #
Enables flight number to be entered for numerous interface requirements.
Flight number displays on the upper right corner of the flight plan and PROG pages. The flight number may be entered as a number with a preface (eg UAL458).
CI – Cost Index #
Enables a CI to be entered by the pilots. A typical cost index is between 15 to 100.
Crz FL/Temp #
Displays pilot‑entered cruise flight level.
Temperature defaults to ISA. During preflight after the FL is entered, the TEMP should be modified by using the ISA temperature from the Flight Plan.
Once airborne, ISA temperature goes blank (three dash lines).
From/To #
Enables a city pair (departure/destination ICAO code) to be entered. Entry automatically deletes any CO RTE previously entered and displays the route selection page.
If either airport is not in the database, the NEW RUNWAY page displays.
IRS Init #
Selects the IRS INIT page and allows LAT/LONG coordinates to be confirmed or changed. LAT/LONG coordinates default to the current departure airport coordinates. The symbols ↑ or ↓ allow the value to be changed with the slew keys. To move the ↑ or ↓ from LAT to LONG, select LONG.
Line select (LS) 3R to view IRS INIT page.
IRS Init Page – Align on REF #
IRS alignment is initiated by selecting and confirming the ALIGN ON REF prompt. IRS 1/2/3 ALIGNING ON REF will appear during the alignment process.
IRS Reference is based on on the airport reference (LAT and LONG) verses aircraft position. After confirmning airport reference is correct Line select (LS) 6R to align IRS.
IRS Init Page – Confirm Align #
Line select (LS) 6R to confirm IRS alignment.
| NOTE If RESET IRS TO NAV message appears, check LAT/LONG on the IRS INIT page against the position of the IRs (navmode). If these positions differ, place all IR mode selectors to OFF, wait for the IRs to shut down, then place the mode selectors to NAV to begin a new alignment. |
IRS Aligning – IRS Init Page #
It takes approximatly 10 minutes to align the IRSs.
RETURN – Line select 6L to return to the INIT A page.
IRS Aligned – IRS Init Page #
This illustration is an example of the IRS INIT page after the IRSs are aligned.
RETURN – Line select 6L to return to the INIT A page.
Wind #
Enables selection of the WIND pages.
During prelight LS 4R will display the climb wind page.
Tropo #
Displays ISA tropopause altitude.
Gnd Temp #
Displays gound temperature. Ground temperature is normally entered during preflight.
In flight, ground temperature defaults to a blank display (3 dash lines).
