Engine Master Switch #

OFF – When OFF is selected, the HP and LP fuel valves close, ignition is turned OFF, and both channels of the FADEC are reset.

ON – Selecting ENG MASTER switch to ON:

  • Opens the LP fuel valve if the ENG FIRE switch is IN
  • Initiates an automatic start, if the ENG MAN START switch is OFF
  • Initiates a manual start if the MAN START switch is ON

Engine Fire/Fault Light #

Engine Fire Fault Light

FIRE – The Engine Start and Ignition Panel’s FIRE light illuminates red when the respective engine fire warning is activated and during a fire test.

FAULT – The Engine Start and Ignition Panel’s FAULT light illuminates amber for the respective engine, in the event of an automatic aborted start, a start valve fault, or for a disagreement between the HP fuel valve and its commanded position.

Engine Mode Selector #

CRANK – The start valve opens if the ENG MAN START switch is ON and N2 is less than 10%. Ignition is not supplied.

NORM – When the NORM position is selected, continuous ignition A and B is automatically selected when an engine is running and one of the following is met:

  • FLX or TO/GA thrust is selected on the ground
  • TO/GA thrust is selected in flight
  • ENG ANTI ICE switch is ON
  • Engine surge or stall occurs in flight
  • FLAPS lever position is other than 0 in flight (approach idle is selected)

IGN/START IN FLIGHT – When the ENG MODE selector is positioned to IGN/START inflight the ENG MASTER switch is armed and provides continuous ignition using both igniters.

IGN/START ON GROUND – When the ENG MODE selector is positioned to IGN/START on the ground:

  • The ENG page on the System Display (S/D) is displayed, if another page has not been manually selected on the S/D
  • Supplies electrical power to the FADECs
  • Amber XXs disappear from all engine parameters except N1 and N2
  • Arms the ENG MASTER switch
  • Closes pack valves. If the ENG MASTER switch is not selected ON within 30 seconds, the pack valves reopen, then re-close when the switch is selected ON. Likewise, if the second engine is not started within 30 seconds of the first start valve closing, the pack valves reopen until the second ENG MASTER switch in selected ON
  • If one or more engines are running, provides continuous ignition using both igniters
